Privacy Policy

Overview

DashCam ("the App") turns your phone into a dashcam: it loop-records your drive, protects the clips that matter, and keeps everything on the phone. This policy explains what the App accesses, how it is used, and whether any of it leaves your device.

Short version: your footage stays on your device. Video, audio and location are written to the App's own private storage and are never uploaded — Nitcart operates no server and receives nothing about you or your driving.

The App does show ads, supplied by Google AdMob, and that is the one part of it that talks to the internet. AdMob collects device-level data of its own to select and measure those ads; what it collects, and how to limit it, is set out under Advertising below. Nothing the App records — not a frame of video, not a second of audio, not a coordinate — is any part of that.

Permissions & Data Access

Everything these permissions produce is used on the device to make your recording, and is written to the App's own private storage.

CAMERA

Recording the video. This is the App's core function. The camera is only ever opened while you are on the Record screen or while a recording session is running, and a session always shows an ongoing notification you can stop it from.

RECORD_AUDIO

Recording sound alongside the video. Optional — turn "Record audio" off in Settings and the microphone is never opened. Recording conversations inside a vehicle is regulated differently from country to country; see Recording Responsibly.

ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION

Reading your speed and coordinates so they can be burned into the video frames and shown on the Record screen. Optional — turn the speed and GPS overlay off and location is never requested. Location is read only while a recording is running. DashCam does not request background location access.

INTERNET ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE AD_ID

Used by the Google AdMob SDK, and by nothing else in the App. No other part of DashCam opens a network connection: recording, playback, the storage limit and the overlays all work with the device offline. See Advertising.

FOREGROUND_SERVICE WAKE_LOCK

Required to keep a recording alive for the length of a drive, including while you use other apps. The service declares the camera, microphone and location types, matching exactly what it uses, and a wake lock keeps the CPU from sleeping mid-session.

POST_NOTIFICATIONS

Showing the ongoing recording notification, which Android requires for a foreground service, and telling you when an incident was saved or a drive stopped on its own.

SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW

Optional. Powers the small floating preview window that lets you see and stop a recording without leaving Maps, and grants the exemption that lets a charger or Bluetooth trigger start recording hands-free on newer Android versions. The overlay contains no personal data.

BLUETOOTH_CONNECT

Optional. Used only to list the Bluetooth devices your phone is already paired with, so you can choose which car stereo counts as "getting into the car". DashCam does not scan for, connect to, or exchange data with any device.

RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED

Optional. Used only if you switch on "Start after device boot".

REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS

Optional, and never granted silently — the App opens the standard Android dialog and you decide. Without it, the system stops long recordings. No data is collected as a result of this permission.

Not requested: no storage permissions and no background location. Clips are written to the App's own external files directory, which needs no storage permission at all — which is also why uninstalling the App deletes them.

Data Stored on Your Device

The App itself stores nothing else about you: no usage log, no crash reporting service and no device fingerprint. The advertising ID is Android's own, held by the system rather than by DashCam, and is used only by the ad SDK — see Advertising.

Data Transmission

The App has no backend of its own. Nitcart operates no server, and receives no videos, audio, location data, device identifiers or usage statistics from you.

The only data leaving your device is what the Google AdMob SDK sends in order to request and measure an ad. Your recordings are never part of that: the App keeps them in private storage and hands them to nothing.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App is paid for by ads served through Google AdMob: one in the Clips list, and an occasional full-screen ad between actions.

To select and measure those ads, Google may collect and use data from your device in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. That typically includes your Android advertising ID, general device information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Nitcart receives none of it beyond aggregate, anonymous revenue figures.

What is never sent: your recordings. The video, audio, coordinates and speed stamped into your clips are not shared with Google, with any advertiser, or with anyone else. The ad SDK has no access to them.

You can reset or delete your advertising ID, and opt out of ad personalisation, at any time under Settings > Google > Ads. Deleting the ID stops personalised ads; you will still see ads, chosen without it.

Data Sharing

Nitcart does not sell, trade or otherwise transfer your information to anyone. The only third party involved is Google AdMob, described above, which operates under Google's own privacy terms.

Your footage is shared only when you deliberately share it yourself, using the share button, at which point it goes wherever you send it and this policy no longer governs it.

Data Retention & Deletion

Children's Privacy

DashCam is not directed at children and is rated for a general audience of drivers. The developer does not knowingly collect anything from anyone, of any age, because nothing is collected at all.

Recording Responsibly

A dashcam records public places, other road users and anyone in your vehicle. The laws covering that — particularly the recording of audio, and the retention of footage showing identifiable people — differ from country to country and sometimes between regions of the same country.

You are responsible for using DashCam lawfully where you are. If audio recording is restricted where you drive, turn "Record audio" off in Settings. Please also mount your phone safely and do not operate the App while driving.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. If a future version of DashCam ever gained a feature that transmitted data, this policy would be updated before that version shipped, and the change would be described in the App's release notes.
